Biografía

Esperanza Alfonso (PhD, Universidad Complutense, 2008) is Tenured Research Fellow at the ILC (CCHS-CSIC). Her research is in the field of Jewish cultural history in the Middle Ages, with a focus on cultural contact in the literature and exegesis produced in the Iberian Peninsula. She has been recipient of a Martin Gruss Fellowship and a Selma Ruben Fellowship at the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies in Philadelphia (1999-2001 and Spring semester 2013), and a Skirball Visiting Fellowship at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies (Spring 2008). Between 2008 and 2012 she was the Principal Investigator of an ERC Starting Grant (ERC-2007-StG 209044-INTELEG), “The Intellectual and Material Legacies of Late Medieval Sephardic Judaism: An Interdisciplinary Approach” funded by the European Research Council, and is currently leading the project LEGARAD IV, The Legacy of Sefarad: Material and Intellectual Production in Late Medieval Sephardic Judaism 4, funded by MCIU/AEI/European Commission (Plan Nacional de I+D+i). She has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Cornell University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and has supervised two PhD dissertations (Isabel Marín, University of Granada, 2015, and David Torollo, University of Salamanca, 2014). She has been invited to present her work at New York University, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (Berlin), Goethe-Universität, Oxford University, University of California, etc.
