Delfina Serrano es Científica Titular en el Institutito de Lenguas y Culturas del Mediterráneo y Próximo Oriente del CSIC. Su especialidad son los estudios árabes e islámicos. Realizó una estancia post-doctoral de dos años en el Departamento de Estudios Orientales de la Universidad de Friburgo en Brisgovia (Alemania) y una estancia de investigación de seis meses en la Zayed University de Abu Dhabi (Emiratos Árabes Unidos). Su trabajo de investigación se centra en el estudio de varios temas interrelacionados: la jurisprudencia islámica (fiqh) según la escuela malikí, la difusión y adopción de la teología racional (escuela ash`arí) en el occidente islámico, la relación entre jurisprudencia, teología y sufismo, la contribución de estas ciencias religiosas al desarrollo de la historia intelectual del Occidente islámico pre-moderno y la vigencia contemporánea del discurso normativo islámico clásico.
