After the major conference on Narratives on Translation which took place at the MPIWG, Berlin, November 16-20, 2015, it is now necessary to discuss in depth the different historiographical positions and experiences with observer narratives about cross-cultural exchanges of knowledge through translation as they were constructed between 1900 and today.
The conference highlighted profound differences of opinion and methodological approaches. The goal of the workshop is twofold:
(1) it is necessary to determine major observer narratives about the different translation cultures, their motifs, and their changes during the last century and to discuss methods for re-narrating such interpretive evaluations of cross-cultural interactions through language transfer;
(2) decisions need to be agreed upon how to structure the intended book and how to achieve a comprehensive integration between the methodological issues and the case studies.
